Waiting for your list · 1 winner
Works for raffles, newsletter draws, store promotions and events. Nothing you paste leaves your device.
How do you pick a random name for a giveaway?
Paste the names one per line, choose how many winners and backups you need and press Draw. Every line has the same chance, no line is drawn twice, and the result comes with a verification code and a link that repeats it.
This page is for lists you already have: a sign-up sheet, an export from your newsletter or shop, raffle tickets. For comments of a post, use the picker of the network, such as the Instagram giveaway picker or the YouTube comment picker. The giveaway winner picker on the home page reads names and comments in the same tool.
One entry each, or more chances for some?
The same list can be drawn in two ways. Decide before the giveaway starts and write it in the rules.
| Your rule | How to write the list | Setting in step 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Everyone has one chance | One line per person. Repeated names do not matter. | Turn on “Remove duplicate lines”. |
| Extra entries (bought more tickets, referred friends) | Repeat the name once for each entry. | Leave “Remove duplicate lines” off. |
| Entries with a ticket or order number | One line per ticket: “1042”, or “1042 Ava” to see the name on the card. | Leave both filters off. |
| Some people cannot win (staff, last month’s winner) | Leave them in the list. | Write their names in “Accounts that cannot win”. |
Example: 8 lines, two people with an extra entry
Duplicates are kept here, so a name written twice has two chances.
The list: Ava, Ben, Ben, Cleo, Dev, Eli, Ava, Fay.
No filter is on, so all 8 lines take part.
Ava and Ben have 2 chances in 8 (25%) each. Cleo, Dev, Eli and Fay have 1 chance in 8 (12.5%) each.
Seed used: 1234567890abcdef1234567890abcdef
Winner: Dev · Code GT-A9B50-5E7B7
Having more chances is not a promise of winning: with this seed the name drawn is Dev, who had a single entry.
When you draw several names from a list with extra entries, a person can come out more than once, one time for each line. Turn on One entry per person if each person may win only one prize.
- Sorting the list or pasting it in another order does not change the result: the lines are sorted before the draw.
- Capital letters and extra spaces are ignored when comparing names: “ava” and “Ava ” are the same person.
A draw with a record, not a spin
What you get here that a wheel or a number generator does not give.
- A code for each result. It is calculated from the list, the seed and the names drawn. A changed list or a swapped name gives another code.
- A link that repeats the draw. It holds the seed and the settings. With the same list, anyone gets the same names on the verify page.
- Backups from the same draw. If a winner cannot be reached, the next name is already decided.
- Rules to go with it. The giveaway rules generator writes the official rules, and the guide on how to run a fair giveaway covers the steps before and after the draw.
Frequently asked questions
How do I pick a random name from a list?
Paste the names one per line, set the number of winners and press Draw. Each line has the same chance, and no line is drawn twice in the same draw.
Can a person have more than one entry?
Yes. Turn off “Remove duplicate lines” and write the name once for each entry. Someone listed three times has three chances; the page shows how many entries take part.
Can I paste emails or ticket numbers instead of names?
Yes. Each line is one entry, whatever it contains: a name, an email, an order number or a ticket number. Nothing you paste leaves your device.
Can I paste a column from Excel or Google Sheets?
Yes. Copy the column and paste it: each cell becomes one line. If you copy two columns, the first is read as the name and the second as a note.
How many winners can I draw at once?
Up to 200 names in one draw, counting winners and backups. The list itself has no limit.
What are my chances with several entries?
Each line that takes part is one chance. With one winner, a name with three lines in a list of ten lines has 3 chances in 10. Turn on “One entry per person” to compare the two rules: the table in the tool shows both side by side.
How is this different from a spinning wheel?
A wheel is fun to watch but leaves no record. Here the result comes with a verification code and a link, so the people on the list can check that the draw was not repeated until a favourite came out.
Is the same result shown if I draw again?
No. Every draw uses a new random seed and has its own code. To show an old result again, open its proof link and paste the same list on the verify page.
Do you keep the names I paste?
No. The names stay in the page while it is open. They are not sent to a server and are not saved in the browser.
